most people call me Jo
JoJo // Joey // J // Josie // Joanne // hey you
I’m a born-and-raised Chicagoan who sees the world through a blend of curiosity, empathy, and a healthy helping of sass — hold the ketchup.
In my career, I’m a writer with a knack for guiding creative ideas — and creative people — to be the best they can be. Once upon a time, I was an art director, having started my career in the trenches before AI was a twinkle in tech’s eye. One of my first and worst jobs was as a Chuck E. Cheese party hostess, so I’ve seen some things that prepared me for future clients.
Personally, I’m into trying new things. I love to cook and kickbox, not necessarily at the same time, although both are better when spicy. I tried stand-up comedy once, but if I’m going to be judged, I’d rather be paid. Jack Black and Urge Overkill sweated on me at the same time. I painted with Keith Haring. Grasshopper tacos are delicious. I hold my own in an escape room. Never ever ask me to climb a ladder. I’m currently teaching myself Figma, Sketch, and Italian because, unlike donuts, you can never have too many skills.
Speaking of clients, I’ve touched a lot of them (and made one cry). Some have even touched me back.
Those client connections, along with ones between a brand and an audience, are pretty cool to have a hand in developing. So are the bonds I’ve formed with co-workers that have become lifelong friends.
Have a taste for more? Let’s connect and see what we can create together…maybe some ads, sites, social, videos, apps, games, books, or just invite me to a pot luck. Whatever the job, I promise to bring the heat.
